Recall the central question of the unit you have just completed: “How do we communicate with others?” One way we communicate with others is through expression. Expression is the act of letting other people know how you feel. You’ve probably expressed how you feel through a conversation, a text, or a card you’ve made for someone. In this activity, you will consider how writers use the different elements of poetry to express their opinions and emotions about a subject. Recall the basic elements of a poem: Rhyme Scheme: the pattern of rhymes at the end of a line of poetry or in a line of poetry
Rhythm and Meter: the pattern of stresses in a line of poetry and the unit of rhythm in poetry
Tone: the attitude a writer adopts toward a particular piece of text
Figurative Language: the use of words and language in a way that differs from their literal meanings
If you completed the writing assignments in this unit, refer to your notes as you complete this activity.
