Read the passage. How does the conversation between Framton and Mrs
Sappleton affect the plot?
The Open Window
by H. H. Munro (Saki)
Framton learns during their conversation that Mrs.
Sappleton is insane, resolving the conflict of the
story
"My aunt will be down presently, Mr. Nuttel," said a very self-
possessed young lady of fifteen, "in the meantime you must
try and put up with me."
Framton Nuttel endeavored to say the correct something
which should duly flatter the niece of the moment without
unduly discounting the aunt that was to come Privately he
doubted more than ever whether these formal visits on a
succession of total strangers would do much towards helping
the nerve cure which he was supposed to be undergoing
Framton believes that Mrs. Sappleton's husband
O and family are dead, while Mrs. Sappleton speaks
as though they are alive, this builds tension
Framton, after waiting all day to speak with Mrs.
O Sappleton, is unable to speak to her. This marks the
climax of the story
Framton and Mrs. Sappleton's discussion reveals
that they have known one another for many years,
providing important background information about
the characters
"I know how it will be," his sister had said when he was
preparing to migrate to this rural retreat, you will bury yourself
down there and not speak to a living soul, and your nerves will
be worse than ever from moping. I shall just give you letters of
introduction to all the people I know there. Some of them, as
far as I can remember, were quite nice."
Framton wondered whether Mrs. Sappleton, the lady to whom
he was presenting one of the letters of introduction, came into
the nice division
"Do you know many of the people round here?" asked the
niece, when she judged that they had had sufficient silent
communion
"Hardly a soul" said Framton "My sister was staying here, at
the rectory, you know, some four years ago and she gave me
letters of introduction to some of the people here."

Read the passage from animal farm. one sunday morning squealer announced that the hens, who had just come in to lay again, must surrender their eggs. napoleon had accepted, through whymper, a contract for four hundred eggs a week. the price of these would pay for enough grain and meal to keep the farm going till summer came on and conditions were easier. when the hens heard this, they raised a terrible outcry. they had been warned earlier that this sacrifice might be necessary, but had not believed that it would really happen. they were just getting their clutches ready for the spring sitting, and they protested that to take the eggs away now was murder. for the first time since the expulsion of jones, there was something resembling a rebellion. led by three young black minorca pullets, the hens made a determined effort to thwart napoleon's wishes. their method was to fly up to the rafters and there lay their eggs, which smashed to pieces on the floor. napoleon acted swiftly and ruthlessly. he ordered the hens' rations to be stopped, and decreed that any animal giving so much as a grain of corn to a hen should be punished by death. the dogs saw to it that these orders were carried out. for five days the hens held out, then they capitulated and went back to their nesting boxes. nine hens had died in the meantime. their bodies were buried in the orchard, and it was given out that they had died of coccidiosis. whymper heard nothing of this affair, and the eggs were duly delivered, a grocer's van driving up to the farm once a week to take them away. which detail from the passage supports the claim that this is an allegory for the great purge? the hens holding out for five days but capitulating the eggs being delivered to the grocer the protesting hens being intentionally starved coccidiosis spreading on the farm
