Two decades ago, researchers believed that homework had a negative impact on students' physical and emotional
health yet many students are still bogged down with hours of homework as early as the second grade. According to
research by several universities, elementary students spend an average of 3 hours per week doing homework. The
same studies revealed that the average high schooler spends over 22 hours a week on homework in fact, students
today spend more than double the time on homework compared to students two decades ago. Sadly, as homework
time doubles, student performance continues to decline. So how then is homework helping? Homework is harmful
and not the answer to student success
