In the beginning of the movie, the Reverend speaking contrasts with other scenes that are happening simultaneously. The director juxtaposes the words of the Reverend with what is happening around him; as this is happening, he says, "Education is the only way out…the way out of darkness…the way out of ignorance…into the glorious light…" What is happening at the beginning while he speaks these words? What is the meaning of what the Reverend is saying? By juxtaposing these events, what does he want the viewing audience to learn?

even though it went against everything the news anchors typically stood for, cronkite voiced an opinion and took a stance, telling the us that there was no way they were going to win, the war was going to end in a stalemate.
