One way for me to tell whether you are truly understanding the story is a quotation test. It goes like this. Skim through “The Veldt”. You are looking for great sentences. Sentences that make you think. Choose 3 separate sentences that you think are the most important. They should be sentences that hold some important meaning. Sentences you would use to show someone else the big ideas of the story. Good ones will relate to life outside the story - maybe even your life. Write the three sentences you have chosen. Next, explain to a small group why your choices have importance and represent the most important part of “The Veldt”.
