Lucy Stone was a famous suffragist regarding Women Rights Movement. She fought for women's rights and made a speech  "The Progress of 50 Years which was meant to persuade women. The speech started with a focus on the inequality experienced by women. Then, it diverts to how it has greatly changed over the last 50 years and this was because of the full force of women together in creating movements to fight for their rights.

In relation to the speech, the story entitled "A Widow's Burden" talked about what a widow experiences when it comes to her rights during the passing of her husband. This is what Sarah experiences in the story when her husband, Elijah, died. Her stepson took almost all of her property, including her farm. She was only entitled to a few things. Her mother and father encouraged her to fight for her right as it was stated in Lucy Stone's speech. They assured her that they will help her fight back her rights, especially her rights to the farm.
