In this activity, you'll use a tripod while recording with a camera. If you don't have access to a tripod, research the various types of tripods, their uses, and the movements they require to shoot a particular scene.
Mount a camera on a tripod and record an activity of your choice. Some suggestions are
• school at closing time (hint: school gate opens, students walk out and board bus, camera pans to show students crossing road, pans up to
walk sign)
• students recording a lesson in session
• basketball practice
• the cafeteria at lunch
The shoot should include two of the following camera and tripod movements: zoom in or zoom out, pan left or right, tilt up or tilt down.
When you have finished recording or researching a particular scene, write a note describing the
• scenes or places you shot,
• kind of camcorder and tripod you used,
• different camera or tripod movements you used (and why), and
• effects you could achieve by making different camera or tripod movements.
