Why are text features important to notice as you are reading a non-fiction text?​

ext features either highlight part of the text as important or help increase understanding of the text. When a child is able to identify and use nonfiction text features, they become readers who understand more of what they are reading.

Text characteristics also help readers decide what is relevant to the text and to them. Readers will waste time flipping through the book without a table of contents or an index to find the data they need. Special printing helps to attract the reader's attention to significant or key words and phrases.
