Cassius: Good Brutus, be prepared to hear… (But a
loud cheer comes from Caesar's crowd offstage. Both
Brutus and Cassius frown at the noise.)

Brutus: What means this shouting? I do fear the people
choose Caesar for their king.

Cassius: (Alertly) Ay, do you fear it? (With a hint, he
takes hold of Brutus's arm.) Then must I think you
would not have it so.

Brutus: (Shaking his head with a frown) I would not,

Cassius; yet I love him well. (He changes the subject
and removes Cassius's gripping hand.) But where-
fore do you hold me here so long? What is it you
would impart to me? (Hoping to hear of honorable
public causes) If it be aught toward the general
good, I love the name of honor more than I fear
death.
