In this activity, you will write a narrative about an internal conflict that you faced and describe how you resolved the conflict.
Part A
Introduction: Hook
Begin your introduction with a “hook” that catches the reader’s attention and sets the scene. Include information that gives the reader answers to these questions:

How old were you when this internal conflict happened?

A: Have you ever really struggled to make a decision? I sure did. It was springtime. I was 11 years old and living with my grandma and grandpa in Florida. The weather was wonderful. I couldn’t wait to try out for spring sports!

B: That spring I had to decide between playing soccer and volleyball. I loved both sports but knew that if I wanted to be able to perform at my best, I would have to choose one over the other.

Supporting detail 2: I knew from the few times I’d played volleyball that I enjoyed the game. It was exciting, and it got my blood pumping.

Supporting detail 3: But I also knew that my serves were very weak; they never went where I wanted them to go. Usually the various members of the other team ducked the minute I served the ball. They didn’t want to get hit.

F: After I really took the time to think about it, I decided I would choose soccer as my spring sport. I had played it for so long that it just felt like the best choice. I will always remember this time in my life because it taught me to trust my instincts. Even though I still enjoy volleyball, soccer is my true love. I’m glad that I’ve stuck with it all these years.
