In 1492, the King and Queen of Spain helped Columbus with money for his journey
Three ships, the Niña, the Pinta and the Santa Maria, started the journey from Spain
on 3* August, 1492. The journey was very long, but after
two months, they arrived on an island in the Caribbean
Columbus and his sailors called the island "San Salvador'.

Columbus believed he was in India. He returned to Spain a
hero with gold, animals and new plants.
