The man from the West, 'Silky' Bob, belives that his friendship with Jimmy Wells in unwavering but the note reveals othewise. "my best chum, the finest chap in the world. He and I were raised in New York , just like two brothers, together" (Paragraph 7). 'Silky' Bob believes that Jimmy Wells is his best friend, and that he will come visit him no matter what, showing his trust in Wells.  "I went around and got a plain clothes man to do the job" (Paragraph 33).  Jimmy betrayed his life long friend for his duty as cop. The note states that Jimmy Wells' was the police officer talking to 'Silky' Bob in the beggining of the passage. The pretend Jimmy Wells' was just a guy sent by the real Jimmy Wells' to arrest 'Silky' Bob in his place.  Jimmy Wells still cared for 'Silky' Bob, that's why he didn't want to arrest 'Silky' Bob himself but, he still  proritized his duty as a police officer over him. 'Silky' Bob had immense trust in Jimmy Wells. In the end  though the note revealed it all. The note showed the set up created by Jimmy Wells' but most importantly showed the different point of views of the character's plot ,and feelings.
