Imagism is a theory and practice of literature that focuses on creating very lucid imagery using words that are very direct to their meaning. This concept was developed in between 1909 and 1912.

In the "Sea Rose" by H.D. we see by the use of metaphor the image of a woman who has been damaged and treated with utmost misuse that she holds no value amongst her peers.

In lines 9 and 10 that the Rose (which metaphorically is normally used to depict women) is stunted and flung on the sand.

This image is corroborated by lines 14 and 15 where the poet states that she drips such an acrid fragrance.
