Reading Prompt "Called Out"

Purpose
Short stories can seem intimidating because of the style and techniques are unfamiliar.
Kingsolver uses various techniques to develop a solid perspective. The ideas shown
through figurative language, themes and symbols can be easily deciphered if you analyze
the text. Think of yourself as a literary detective and your job is to decode the text and pull
out important information.
Remember: The meaning of a text may be more than it seems at first.
Understanding the meaning or "Mrs. Colon, why is this lady so obsessed with plants?"
What is the meaning of this text? What is it trying to say about life in general? How does the
wilderness remind us of what it means to be human?
