Chimamanda grew up in a household of 8, in the city of Nsukka. Chimamanda went to University of Nigeria. At the age nineteen Chimamanda left for the United States for further education. She attended Drexel University, John Hopkins University, Yale University and Eastern Connecticut State University. She enjoyed writing. She often wrote about her childhood and real life events. Adichie is now a Nigerian novelist, nonfiction and short story writer.
