Achilles was a Greek hero who is said to have fought in the Trojan War. He was the son of Peleus, king of the Myrmidonians, and the nymph Thetis. According to one legend, when he was an infant, the hero was bathed in the river Styx so that he could not be harmed by any weapon (thus being immortal); except on his heel, where his mother was grasping him.

After Paris seizes Helen, the wife of Menelaos, king of Sparta, and takes her to Troy, where his father Priam is king, Menelaos seeks the help of his brother Agamemnon, the most powerful king of the Greeks. The heroes of the Greeks are called together, among them Achiles and his close friend Patroclus.

Later there is a conflict between Achilles and Agamemnon referring to Briseida, a Trojan lady with whom Achilles was in love. Due to this situation, Achilles refuses to fight, and is replaced by his friend Patroclus, who is killed by Hector, Priamo's son. Upon learning of the death of his friend, Achilles challenges Hector to combat, where he finally kills him.

Later in the fight, Achiles is shot in his heel by Paris, and dies as a result of the injury.
