There are significantly fewer woman working in STEM fields than there are men because of reasons like; differences in education, stereotypes, and lack of role models. Sexism in general!

There are already very few women in STEM, so when a young girl wants to try it out, they often feel discouraged with no representation in such a male dominated environment. Stereotypes that women aren't smart, are weak, and aren't capable are incredibly harmful as well. They make women feel horrible everyday and perpetuate feelings of insecurity in girls. Differences in education can have a negative effect on young women, with lots of schools finding that young men tend to excell in STEM fields like math and science, while more young women excell in reading, and the arts. Sexism is so detrimental to society and women overall.
