Barbara had been through months of difficult and thorough training using all kinds of equipment. Now the day had come to see if she had learned all she needed to know. The jump master checked her equipment and yelled the command, "Stand up and hook up!" Barbara was not
reluctant, just careful! That 1,000-foot step seemed an extremely long way.
As the words of the sergeant were hidden by the sound of the plane's engine, Barbara tried to remember her jump procedure. For a brief
instant, she recalled that it takes eight seconds to hit the ground without a chute. But her excitement won out over fear, and she concentrated on
the correct procedure.
As Barbara stood in the open doorway, the prop blast was like a gale. She confidently returned the jump master's gaze as he tapped her on
the shoulder to jump and then motioned for the next person to come to the door and get ready.
What is the jump master's job?
1. to be first out of the plane to show the others what to do
2. to act as copilot and group leader
3. to observe the jumps and grade each jumper
4. to organize the jumps and give jump order
