The fiddlers began arriving as early as 10:30 in the morning. While they knew and respected one another, to say that they liked one another, especially at a contest with this much money at stake, would be taking It too far. The Sligo Fiddle Fest was the premler event of the year. Winning at Sligo meant a fat wad of money in the winner's pocket and more. Record contracts and the likelihood of getting as much work as anybody could want for the coming year. Tom Sargeant had won at Sligo more than anyone else, but he'd gone over five years without a victory. It wasn't that he was losing his touch; It was more a matter of others getting more competitive. Simply put, Tom had been too much of an Inspiration. No good deed goes unpunished. Ben Carpenter was warming up in the parking lot. Two years ago, as a fourteen year old, he'd made his first appearance at Sligo and made it all the way to the finals. Last year, much Improved, he'd come in third in what was probably the best field ever assembled at any fiddle festival in the southeast. People were anxious to hear how much he'd Improved. Dan Wheeler was the exception. He was hobbling around, back-slapping and glad-handing everyone as they entered the grounds. Dan had won once several years ago, and now he was content to make the finals most of the time. He was more a dance fiddler than a contest fiddler. Which is the point of view of the passage?
