The Brown vs. Board of Education (1954) was a critical Supreme Court case in US History. In this case, the Brown family challenged the idea of segregated schools being legal in America. Segregated schools were seen throughout the US ever since the Plessy vs. Ferguson court case in 1896.

One of the lawyers for the Brown family, Thurgood Marshall, argued that segregated schools violated the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. The Equal Protection Clause clearly states that the constitution equally protects all citizens within the US.
