CONTEXT: In the last section of our close reading handout, it says that, in the 3rd step of close reading, students
should be able to "synthesize and analyze oration from several texts or media." In this exercise, we will
practice that task.

PROMPT: So far, we have read two texts in this Unit, which is called "Finding Common Ground." The first text was
called "A Quilt of a Country," by Anna Quinglen aid the Second was called "Making the Future Better, Together sex
Eboo Patel. What is one common theme shared by both authors? Llew do they treat the theme similarly or
differently?
EXPECTATIONS: A complete answer will consist of at least two paragraphs, each consisting of 6-8 complete
sentences. All answers should express thoughtful engagement with the material, and every submission should be
edited and proofhead for errors. A complete answer will contain at least two pieces of textual evidence to support
its central claim, one quote from each author.
