Activity
In this activity, youā€™ll identify and analyze examples of internal conflict in Robert Cormierā€™s short story ā€œThe Moustache.ā€

Part A

In ā€œThe Moustache,ā€ the character Mike deals with internal conflict throughout the story. Describe some examples of Mikeā€™s internal conflicts by completing the following sentence in at least two ways:
Mike expected, but; so .

Hereā€™s an example:

Mike expected to be treated like a grown up, but he didnā€™t like paying full price at the movies; so he thought about shaving off his moustache.

Part B
Another example of internal conflict occurs when Mike returns from the nursing home: he must decide whether to tell his mother the truth about his grandmotherā€™s state of mind or say that his grandmother is fine. How does Mike resolve this internal conflict? Why do you think he makes this choice?

Part C
The author, Robert Cormier, reveals a great deal about Mike in this story, but he doesnā€™t tell us why Mike shaves off his moustache. Based on events in the story, why do you think he shaved? Provide evidence from the text to support your response?

Part D
The main conflict in the story occurs at the end of his visit with his grandmother. Does Mike do the right thing by saying ā€œI forgive you, Megā€ to his grandmother? What would you do if you were Mike? Why? Make sure to explain your answer.

Thank you sm and have a great day! :)

How might an author with the opposite attitude rephrase the following sentence? this historic building is a local treasure, with a distinctive exterior and many antiques and fascinating artwork on the inside. choose the correct answer from the following choices, and then select the submit answer button. it's a shame this old building hasn't been torn down yet: its ugly design makes it an eyesore, and it is full of rickety furniture and dusty paintings. this building was built over 100 years ago and features a design not seen on many other buildings of the era as well as a large collection of furniture and art. the old man running the antiques shop watched the kids with suspicion, worrying they would not handle his fragile merchandise with proper care. it is vital that we preserve the history of our town by taking care of buildings like this one, with its interesting design and outstanding collection of art and furniture.
