Examine the central idea of Chapter 2 in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. In this chapter, Tom uses ingenuity and his knowledge of human nature to convince others to do his assigned chore of painting the fence. Toms think of work as something your obligated to do but the play is something you get the choice or want to do.  Tom's Aunt makes him whitewash the fence he really doesn't want to do it so he tricks his friends into doing it.  He says "it's not everyday a boy gets to whitewash a fence" which makes his friend more and more interested in it.  Then he tells his friend, his aunt would only let one in one to two thousand boys work on her fence, which made his friend even more interested until he was begging to whitewash the fence.
