'Borders' is a short story written by Thomas King. The story is about a mother who plans to visit her daughter residing in Salt Lake City. The motherr belongs to 'Blackfoot' tribe and is proud of her culture and nativity.

When the mother reaches the border and guards inqure about her nativity, she proudly asserts that she is a 'Blackfoot.' The mother didn't call herself either Canadian or American but Blackfoot, because she was proud of her culture. In doing so, she also didn't let the colonization win by not turning back on her culture.

The readers would also agree that in doing so she did the right thing. Her bold decision to identify herself with her native tribe gives the readers a lesson that one should not be either afraid or ashamed to identify themselves from where they have come. One should not be ashamed of where they belong to, or what native they belong to.
