My Question: Should volunteering be required to graduate high school?
Claim: Students should have to volunteer if they want to graduate high school.
Counterclaim: Some students may not have time to volunteer with having jobs and when they don’t have to work they might like to see their family.
Reason 1:If you wanted to get into a good college to have a good job volunteering could help.
Evidence/Support: Volunteering promotes leadership and awareness as students take an active role in their communities. Requiring community service allows schools to help students become more educated in how they can help others and the impact they can have.
Rebuttal: Volunteering does not take all of your time.
Reason 2: Volunteering can make you feel good.
Evidence/Support:. : volunteering makes you happy. By measuring hormones and brain activity, researchers have discovered that being helpful to others delivers immense pleasure. Human beings are hard-wired to give to others. The more we give, the happier we feel
Evidence/Support: Research suggests that volunteers aren’t just helping the communities they serve. People who volunteer actually experience a boost in their mental health — good news at a time when more than a third of Americans report feeling symptoms of anxiety or depression.
