"The Cask of Amontillado" manages to make me feel many different feelings. The feeling of claustrophobia is very real within this short story, because the details described by Poe and the adjectives that create the image of Montressor trapping Fortunato inside the wall are very real, making us feel the same claustrophobic horror as Fortunato. In addition, history makes us feel hopeless and helpless, as there is nothing Fortunado can do to save himself. Finally, the story makes me feel agony. This feeling is the result of terror for being trapped, asking for help and not being able to be attended by anyone, having no other choice but to languish and die slowly.
