In cities throughout Germany, public bookshelves encourage people to leave and take books. Each shelf holds around 200 books. The bookshelves seem to have something for everyone. Browsers can find a mix of anything
from fiction to self-help books, travel guides, or novels. Recently, one bookshelf was well equipped with
hardcover classics, including Erich Maria Remarque's All Quiet on the Western Front and Margaret Mitchell's Gone
with the Wind. There were also science fiction and an assortment of frequently read crime novels. At another Wo
bookshelf in the neighborhood, the lower shelves are reserved for children's literature only.
