We noticed earlier from the story Prashant's act of courage. He was determined to find his family after the cyclone hit even when others were hesitant to do so. In fact, we are told his "friend’s family pleaded  with Prashant to stay back a little while longer."

He sought to help himself by equipping himself in the best way possible for the trip back to his village. In a sense, after Prashant helped himself God lend a helping hand to him when he discovered his family was safe.
