"The Value of a Sherpa Life" is an article written by Grayson Schaffer after the terrible accident where sixteen Sherpas died in an avalanche. Sherpas are people who, basically, do all the hard work in climbing the Everest. They guide and carry the heavy loads, supplies and baggages for Westerners.

Schaffer here opposes this exploitation, but also is aware that this job in climbing industry brings Sherpas above-the-average sums of money which enables them to provide for their families. That's why Schaffer proposes a middle-ground solution: "The answer isn’t decreasing, or ending, the climbing business on Everest; the solution is increasing the value of a Sherpa life".

He continues by providing information on lower pay, lower standards for rescue insurance, lower payouts on accidental-death etc.

So, for start, he sees the solution in increasing the value of a Sherpa life and acknowledging them for their hard work, instead of seeing them as disposable.
