Both poems present love as something dangerous that threatens the life of an individual, weakening him and leaving him vulnerable.

“Having It Both Ways" does this through repetition. This is because, in the course of the poem, it is possible to see that the author repeats the idea that many would like to have both (life and love), but one can only have one , many choose love and then repent wishing they were still alive.

In "superheart", this concept is shown in a less subjective way and instead of repetition, it uses the allusion, explaining the actions of love on someone with references to what the kryptonite causes to the superman.
