Epic poetry is usuallly abstract, whereas  lyric poetry usually tells a story.

Explanation:

Epic poetry needs many different aspects to it. There is a ton of emotion and tons of deciphering, whereas lyric poetry needs some sort of drama/acting in it. This makes it more memorable and interesting from each part of it and to give it some more essence.
