Should people in a life-or-death situation be held accountable for their actions?

If people are in life-or-death situations because of their own choices, they should definitely be held accountable for their actions. Otherwise, if somebody else somehow causes the situation, the person in the situation should not be blamed. In the end, the person who caused the life-or-death situation be held accountable for their actions, not the person who was in the middle of the conflict.
