A third reason was for the opportunity for families to earn more money. America was known as a country of freedom and opportunity because of its Declaration of Independence, which states, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. " However, deciding to leave a country was not easy. Immigrants were choosing to leave behind family members, friends, and a familiar life.
