What was the basic difference in Telemachus’s leaving home compared with the leave-taking of those who left to fight in Troy? A. Because he was very young and had not experienced much of life, he had no idea what the rigors of war were going to be like.

B. While many of the soldiers who sailed off to Troy left families back in Ithaca, Telemachus left only his mother, his home, and his country.

C. He was leaving in order to seek information that would help him find his father, Ulysses, while the soldiers twenty years or so earlier were seeking to rescue Helen; therefore there seemed to be far less danger built into Telemachus’s journey.

D. Because of the crowd of suitors, there were far more people who would be glad Telemachus was leaving than there were people who would grieve over his absence. That was not so for the soldiers heading for Troy.
