The Theme is The Indispensable Struggle for Mastery.In this excerpt it explains several things it explains the emotion developed the author tell their audience "The toil of the traces seemed the Supreme expression of their being,and all that they lived for and the only thing in which they took delight."The theme explains Struggle and Misery while this part explains delight and expression.It also describes Surprised and eagerness which are all a development of emotion.Now, if we relate back to the Theme it also describes Emotions.
