Karen and I had been best friends since first grade. But I was a little jealous of her. Karen always seemed smarter and prettier than everyone. One day, we both put our names in for a dance contest. I practiced hard for weeks. I wanted to win the dance contest and beat Karen. On the day of the contest, I went on stage. I danced like I’d never danced in my life. The crowd clapped loudly. Then it was Karen’s turn. She missed some steps and even lost her balance at one point. I knew something was wrong—Karen was no klutz.
