Read this passage from Through the Looking-Glass by Lewis Carroll. "And this one is the most provoking of all—but I'll tell you what—” she added, as a sudden thought struck her, "I'll follow it up to the very top shelf of all. shakespeare was famous for writing in iambic pentameter, which is a specific way of rhyming sonnet lines in ten syllables. there are also forms of unrhymed iambic pentameter, as in macbeth, with the noble characters.

awnser: the oxford dictionary of quotations (oup 1970) has 66 pages of quotations

attributed to the writings of william shakespeare in which there are 2369 quotations,

which may reflect well over 5000 speeches, discussions, observations and comments

that are present in shakespeare’s work. it is largely from those speeches and discussions

on shakespeare’s 37 plays, as well as his, and others’ poems, that examples have been

taken here.
