After a long journey, Aeneas and his men arrive in Italy where they fight with the Latins. He marries the Latin princess Lavinia and founds the civilization that will eventually become Rome. In Ursula K. Le Guin's novel Lavinia, the main character is a Latin princess named Lavinia who marries the Trojan hero Aeneas and becomes involved in the politics and conflicts between the Trojans and the Latins in Italy. Eventually Lavinia comes to feel that she is at the mercy of the writer Virgil himself, and that her world is not real.
