… (1) Everyone had hot chocolate to keep off the late October chill. (2) Jamie had drunk his hot chocolate quickly, so now when he put aside his video game to look in his travel mug, all he found in it was wishful thinking. (3) He zipped up his sweatshirt and pulled the hood over his ears.

(4) Melissa spoke softly to Ricky, “That very bright star is called Rigel, that one on the other side of the belt is Bellatrix, and the bright one to the left is Betelgeuse.”

(5) Jamie looked up at the sky to see these bright stars Melissa was naming—just for a second; he had not changed his mind that this was completely boring. (6) A chorus of “Ohs” and a “Did you see that?” erupted from his family.
