Internal and external are the two main types of conflicts in literature. Internal conflicts is the psychological effort in the memory of a bookish character, the purpose of which produces the plot's dilemma. Mental effort emerging from resisting needs or motives.

For instance,  Hamlet's inaction is induced by internal conflict. External conflict is the effort between the person and outside force. A good example for external conflict between children and parent.
