For example, when I was five, I cried. The independent clause in the sentence above is "I cried" since it has a subject and a verb. The simple sentence is a sentence on which its structure is not complex (meaning it has one clause, an independent clause). Whereas the second type, the complex sentence, has multiple clauses more so a dependent clause (which is also called the subordinate clause). And the other two types, the compound, and the complex-compound sentences are similar since they both have multiple clauses. But the difference between the two is that the compound sentence has more than one subject and predicate (the predicate is the part of the sentence where the verb is the most prominent in). Whereas the compound-complex has multiple clauses.
