Read the following paragraph, then answer the question below: Who would've thought that old business that happened so long ago and that was
buried the way he thought it was would turn up? That business when he had to kill
Don Lupe. Not for nothing either, as the Alimas tried to make out, but because he
had his reasons. He remembered: Don Lupe Terreros, the owner of the Puerta de
Piedra-- and besides that, his compadre-- was the one he, Juvencio Nava, had to kill,
because he'd refused to let him pasture his animals, when he was the owner of the
Puerta de Piedra and his compadre too.
Juvencio thinks of what he did as "that old business." From this phrase it can be
inferred that he:
O feels little remorse.
has forgotten the exact details of what he did.
O believes the act was justified because it was not personal.
thinks that people were more forgiving about murder in the past.

What is the significance of the above statement in relation to the play’s conclusion? oedipus treats his inferiors poorly but ultimately grants them the same respect he grants to nobility. while teiresias appears to be mocking oedipus, the real message is one of warning about the forces working against the king. oedipus earns great fame for answering the riddle of the sphinx but ultimately loses his crown to a common man. just as oedipus is unable to conceive that he has done wrong in the past, he is unable to imagine that his enviable position is impermanent.
