That test ends in a sort of tie among the brothers. So the brothers decide to compete to save the princess. In the end, they realize that they need to combine all their skills to defeat the dragon. If the brothers had not separated in the beginning, they probably wouldn’t have learned these different skills. And they each wouldn’t have won half a kingdom.
