In the myth of Cronus, a powerful titan hears a prophecy that he will be overthrown by his own children, so he devours them. His wife Rhea
gives birth to another son, Zeus, but hides him away. After Zeus grows
up, he forces Cronus to vomit up the children, who then overthrow their
father in anger.
In Ola Rotimi's African play The Gods are not to Blame, Odewale, not
knowing he was raised by foster parents, runs away when it is
prophesized that he will kill his father. On his journey, he accidentally
kills an old man in a fight and agrees to help a village being attacked
after the death of their king. After the battle, Odewale becomes the
new king, not realizing until later that the dead king was both his real
father and the old man he had killed
