Passage: Jay desperately wanted his grandfather's palomino mare, bettina. his grandfather offered to sell it to him, saying that, kids today don't know the meaning of hard work. To earn money, Jay got a job at the sac n pac bagging groceries every day after school. his grandfather came into the store occasionally and tried to give Jay a big tip for bringing the groceries out to his car, but Jay would always smile and refuse. Jay enjoyed earning his own money but he knew it would take him a long time to earn enough to buy Bettina. One day, as Jay walked home from work he saw his grandfather's truck pulling an empty horse trailer. His grandfather told Jay that he'd just dropped bettina off at Jay's family Barn it reminded the boy that bettina liked carrot after being ridden. as his grandfather drove away, Jay smiled and rushed home to see his new horse.
