Not every individual is capable of being persuasive. Some people are just born with terrific social skills which in turn allows them to persuade other individuals. Odysseus is an excellent example of a persuasive character because not only is he a hero in his country, he is also a leader who has spent much time trying to persuade people to believe that his actions and words are true. Odysseus’s ability to persuade people allowed him to be reunited with his wife, Penelope, after being gone for twenty years. This is significant because his ultimate goal throughout the epic poem was to be reunited with her. Therefore, His ability to persuade Penelope by expressing his emotions and giving her specific details was a significant factor that allowed him to prove to her that he is the one and only Odysseus whom she fell in love with. When Odysseus returns home, his wife Penelope does not believe that her husband has actually returned home to her in Ithaca.
