- negative manner because okeke (a very traditional man and father) doesn’t want his son nnaemeka to marry nene (a woman from the city).

- okeke thinks nnaemeka is breaking with tradition by being engaged and wanting to marry nene, so he doesn’t talk to his son or nene for many years

- it turns into a positive manner at the end when okeke gets a letter from nene about her two sons (okeke’s grandsons) wanting to visit him.

- okeke realizes breaking with tradition isn’t so bad after all because he wants to meet his grandson

nectar in a sieve:

- european views are treated in a negative & positive manner

- rukmani and her husband nathan have 1 daughter don’t like that their village is becoming less traditional and is becoming more modern instead

- rukmani wishes she had sons
