Ambrose Bierce was a journalist. Many of his newpaper columns focused on corruption, fraud, and people Bierce didn't like. Bierce had a biting wit, so people did not want to find themselves the subject of one of his columns. However, he also had a very serious side to his writing. In fact, Bierce was disappointed with the war reporting of his day, so he basically said, "I will do it myself !" At the age of 71, he rode alongside Pancho Villa's army as it waged revolution across Mexico.
