The Antifederalists wanted a bill of rights in the Constitution to prevent the government from taking away their freedoms, so the Federalists promised them they would add one, if they supported them in the ratification of the Constitution. In the end, the Antifederalists agreed with the Federalists, and with the newly ratified Constitution, there was an added bill of rights.
