Macbeth is all about the Great Chain of Being.  The happenings of the title character (his assent to power) is capitulated on his sudden rise to power and the unorthodox means he goes about going such.  The witches of "weird sisters" bring the supernatural element to the play.  This would have been very noteworthy to the contemporary Elizabethans watching Shakespeare's play.  Their (the witches') influence on Macbeth is what sets the events to come in motion.  They put the idea into Macbeth's head -- that he could be king (the addition of Lady Macbeth's thirst for power is an added bonus).  In thinking about the Great Chain of Being, the supernatural element is key.  Things are no longer in order with the events that come after the witches' proclamation.  They are out of order and must be righted.
